Ghostchat is a Chrome extension that lets you chat, in real time, with other Ghostchat users who are currently browsing the same website as you. This policy explains, in full, everything the extension and its server ever see.
The domain of the site you're currently on. This is sent to our server the moment the extension activates, so it can group you with other Ghostchat users on the same site right now. This is the entire basis of how the product works — without it, there is no way to match you with anyone.
Chat messages you choose to type and send. These pass through our server in order to be relayed live to other people currently in the same chat as you.
Our server briefly holds an open connection and a list of who else is currently in the same chat, purely to relay messages live. The moment everyone leaves a given chat (i.e. the last person closes the tab or navigates away), that chat's data — including any messages sent during it — is gone completely. There is no way to retrieve it, by us or anyone else, because it was never written down anywhere in the first place.
If the same message is sent three times in a row, that connection is temporarily rate-limited for one hour to prevent spam. This check is based on the connection's IP address at the time, held only for the duration of the limit, and is not logged or retained beyond that.
